My father has a strong religious practice. He started water fasting on Fridays years ago, in spite of his elderly age. I decided to try it and joined him once. If he could do it, so could I. The poetry began to “flush” out of me coinciding with this fast. It continued each day for the remainder of my visit. I wrote over 400 poems in roughly 2 short weeks which were condensed into this book which I offer you.
Skunk in the Wilderness is above all about becoming conscious of the life we have received. As conscious as we would be if a skunk entered the room we occupied. How alert and attentive would we be?
. . . Inspiration: I know I need it.
Can't live without it.
I'm always searching for it.
Can I offer it to you?
